PDP Diaspora Initiative, a US-based organization of members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to desist from every assault on the Nigerian judicial system and stop his act of tyranny that is jeopardizing the Nigerian democracy.
“We join our mother party, PDP, in a strong condemnation of President Buhari’s disregard of rule of law and encroachment on the judicial arm of government,” PDP Diaspora Initiative Founder and National Chair Honourable Victoria Pamugo said.
This call is being made as a result of President Buhari’s recent breach of protocols, act of disregard of democratic institutions and illegally foisting a Chief Justice on the nation while the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, is still in office.
“We call on all Nigerians to reject President Buhari’s political manoeuvre, forceful suspension of the Nigerian constitution and annexation of the judicial arm of government,” Hon. Pamugo said. “Every attempt to rig this 2019 election will backfire on APC and Nigerians will reject them,” she said.
“President Buhari’s action is a move towards totalitarianism in order to achieve his self-succession bid, having realized that Nigerians have lost confidence in him as the presidential election draws nearer,” Hon. Pamugo said.
PDP Diaspora Initiative echoes the position of the People’s Democratic Party, which in a January 25 press statement, condemned President Buhari’s action as an attempt to unilaterally appoint a Chief Justice and foist him on Nigerians. The organization agrees that President Buhari’s action is a direct invitation to anarchy, national confusion and a monumental crisis capable of derailing the Nigerian democracy and destroying its corporate existence as a nation.
“About four years ago, President Buhari and his All Progressive Congress (APC) promised heaven on earth to all Nigerians,” Hon. Pamugo said.
“Based on that promise, our people gave them a chance. But they have rewarded Nigerians with broken promises, hardship, joblessness, bad roads, suffering, hunger and insecurity,” she said.
“President Buhari and his APC are driving our country to destruction and we cannot stand aside and watch,” she said.
“We call on all Nigerians to reject them, vote them out in this coming election and choose a true and tested leader, Atiku Abubakar, so that we can have a chance to start rebuilding our country,” Hon. Pamugo said.
